K'taka eyes Rs.600-cr for port infra

Karnataka Port Infrastructure
In order to cater to the emerging requirement of port infrastructure in the state, the state government in Karnataka has sought funds of Rs.600-cr to complete the task. The state CM is keen to develop ports in Mangaluru and 11 other places across the state, Ports and Inland Transport Minister, H.C. Mahadevappa said, claiming that owing to lack of grants, ports in the state lacked basic infrastructure necessary for development. Following a report by an expert committee, the department has prepared a scheme for the development of 12 ports. The government has planned to first take up the work in Mangaluru and Karwar – the two major ports in the state and shortly after that, it will take up work in the remaining 10 other ports across the coastal belt, he said.
