IPRCL speeds up ₹44,605-cr rail lines connecting ports
The Indian Port Rail Corporation Ltd (IPRCL) has fast tracked 52 projects for rail connectivity to ports entailing an investment of ₹44,605 crore, said official sources. The projects are being undertaken by IPRCL across nine major ports. To start with, it has taken up 32 projects of ₹18,253 crore and and 23 rail connectivity projects of ₹24,877 crore have been identified under Sagarmala. A pact for implementation of the 362 km Indore-Manmad New Railway Line Project has been signed recently between Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, Ministry of Railways and the governments of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. The new project will reduce the distance from Mumbai and Pune to key central India locations by 171-km, resulting in lower logistics costs and lesser travel times. Of the total number of projects, seven entailing investment of ₹2,491 crore and eight worth ₹175 crore have already been completed, said official sources, who said that the Sagarmala program, which is a port-led development program of the country will reduce logistics cost for both overseas and domestic trade.
