Purvbanchal Cement plans ₹200cr expansion, including new grinding unit in Bengal

Purbanchal Cement
Purbanchal Cement, a company based in Assam, has announced plans to invest ₹200 crore in acquisition and expansion over the next few years, including the establishment of a grinding unit in West Bengal. The company, which is a part of the Maithon Group and currently operates a 0.5 million tonne capacity plant near Guwahati, is considering brownfield expansion or acquisition with mine rights in northern Assam to increase its installed capacity to 1 million tonnes.

Purbanchal Cement Managing Director Vedant Agarwal informed that the company is looking to tap into the demand in the eastern market with the new grinding unit in West Bengal, which has been actively seeking investment from manufacturing industries due to its abundant coal deposits. Agarwal also noted that the cement industry has been facing challenges due to high commodity prices and supply hurdles, but that the situation is improving slowly.
