The project includes the construction of a 1.4 km precast drain along Mandi Road and a 1.9 km precast drain along Bandh Road, along with two pump houses to remove accumulated stormwater. The entire Mandi Road stretch will also be relaid.
The Public Works Department (PWD) has opened financial bids for the project, and the contract is expected to be awarded shortly, according to an official. The road was previously under the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) but has now been transferred to the PWD to enable coordinated planning and execution of road and drainage works.
Mandi Road connects CDR Chowk to the Delhi-Haryana border through Jaunapur village. The area is naturally low-lying, and rainwater previously drained through a natural channel into Haryana. Rapid urbanisation subsequently obstructed the outlet, leading to repeated flooding during the monsoon. Temporary pumping arrangements have provided only short-term relief.
Under the project, precast drains will be constructed along both Mandi Road and Bandh Road, supported by two pump houses to improve stormwater removal. Officials said the use of precast drainage components would accelerate construction while minimising disruption to residents and traffic.
Once completed, the project is expected to improve monsoon drainage and road conditions for residents of Chhatarpur and surrounding areas.
