PM Modi Launches ₹14,700 Cr Development Projects in Haryana, Flags Off India's First Hydrogen Train
A key highlight of the event was the flagging off of India's first hydrogen-powered train between Jind and Sonipat. Modi described the train as a landmark achievement in the country's transition towards green mobility, noting that it is among the world's most powerful hydrogen passenger trains with a 10-coach configuration and 3,200 horsepower capacity.
The Prime Minister said the hydrogen train, developed under the Make in India initiative, demonstrates India's growing capabilities in clean transport technologies. He added that the deployment of hydrogen-powered rail services would create new manufacturing opportunities and employment while supporting sustainable mobility.
Highlighting the transformation of Indian Railways over the past decade, Modi said nearly 99 per cent of the Broad Gauge network has now been electrified, compared with around 30 per cent before 2014. He said the expansion of electrification has reduced dependence on imported diesel and strengthened the resilience of railway operations amid global fuel supply disruptions.
The Prime Minister also dedicated major healthcare projects, including Pandit Neki Ram Sharma Government Medical College in Bhiwani and Maharishi Chyavan Medical College along with Rao Tularam Hospital in Narnaul. He said the new institutions would expand access to quality healthcare while creating additional opportunities for medical education in Haryana.
In the road sector, Modi inaugurated sections of the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway, the Jind-Gohana National Highway and the Ambala-Kala Amb four-lane highway project. He said the improved road network would reduce travel time, strengthen freight movement and enhance connectivity for farmers, industries and businesses across the region.
The Prime Minister noted that Jind is now connected through five national highways, which will improve market access for agricultural produce and livestock while supporting industrial development, tourism and job creation.
Referring to sports infrastructure, Modi said the Centre is strengthening support for athletes through initiatives such as Khelo India, the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) and the National Sports Policy. He reiterated India's ambition to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games and bid for the 2036 Olympic Games, calling on young athletes to prepare for future international competitions.
The Prime Minister also announced the foundation stone for a Sikh Museum in Kurukshetra to preserve and showcase the legacy of Sikh Gurus and India's cultural heritage.
Highlighting support for the agricultural sector, Modi said farmers in Haryana have received around ₹8,000 crore under the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi, including more than ₹600 crore disbursed to beneficiaries in Jind district.
Concluding his address, the Prime Minister said sustained investments in transport, healthcare, education and cultural infrastructure would accelerate Haryana's development and contribute to the vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
