PM Modi Launches Development Projects Worth ₹4,700 Crore in Chandigarh
Highlighting Chandigarh's role as a regional hub for Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir, the Prime Minister said the Centre has invested more than ₹2,500 crore under the Smart City Mission to modernise the city through initiatives such as the Integrated Command and Control Centre, smart traffic management and digital governance.
In the healthcare sector, Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for major facilities, including a Neuroscience Centre, a Mother and Child Care Centre and a Critical Care Hospital Block, which are expected to enhance treatment capacity and improve access to specialised healthcare for millions of people across northern India.
The Prime Minister said India has significantly expanded its healthcare infrastructure over the past decade through the establishment of new AIIMS, medical colleges and specialty hospitals. He also highlighted the growth of Ayushman Bharat Health and Wellness Centres, telemedicine services through e-Sanjeevani and improvements in maternal and infant healthcare outcomes.
On medical education, Modi announced that an MBBS college has been approved at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh. He also inaugurated the Kurukshetra Boys Hostel at Punjab Engineering College and laid the foundation stone for new hostel facilities for research scholars to strengthen higher education and research infrastructure.
In the road sector, the Prime Minister inaugurated the six-lane greenfield highway connecting IT City with Kurali to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion on the Chandigarh airport corridor. He also laid the foundation stone for the PR-7 Spur road project, which is expected to enhance regional connectivity and support economic development.
Referring to railway infrastructure, Modi highlighted the launch of the country's first hydrogen-powered train between Jind and Sonipat and the inauguration of railway projects in Punjab as part of the government's efforts to promote sustainable transportation and modernise the national rail network.
The Prime Minister reiterated the government's commitment to building future-ready infrastructure and said investments in healthcare, education and transport would play a key role in achieving the vision of a developed India by 2047.
