India embarks on world's largest planned urbanisation program
India is undertaking the largest planned urbanisation program globally, with urban development investments exceeding Rs 18 lakh crore since 2014, according to Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri. The announcement was made during the launch of CITIIS 2.0, aimed at innovating, integrating, and sustaining city investments to combat climate change challenges. Puri highlighted initiatives like Swachh Bharat Mission and Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation, emphasizing the government's focus on water security, waste management, and achieving a circular economy in urban areas. The minister also emphasized the country's commitment to a $40 trillion economy by 2047.
