The facility is being developed to address growing demand for cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI) workloads and data localisation. It will be designed to support high-density AI computing requirements for hyperscalers, neocloud providers and AI companies.
The data centre will feature direct-to-chip liquid cooling technology to manage heat generated by high-performance computing systems while supporting operational efficiency, scalability and reliability. Renewable energy integration and energy-efficient technologies will also form part of the facility's sustainability strategy.
The project is part of L&T's planned gigawatt-scale AI Factory campus in Chennai. The campus already hosts advanced AI compute clusters at an operational 30 MW facility and is supported by 150 MVA of power infrastructure readiness.
The new 52 MW facility will expand the campus's capacity to support AI computing and cloud infrastructure requirements as demand for digital services grows in India.
Prashant Chiranjive Jain, Managing Director, Vyoma.AI, said, “The groundbreaking of our 52 MW Chennai data center marks a significant step in strengthening India’s digital infrastructure ecosystem. As AI adoption accelerates, the data center is being designed to deliver the performance, scalability and resilience required for next-generation workloads while advancing sustainable, low-carbon digital infrastructure."
