Indian Railways plan to connect all state capitals in northeast

Indian Railways
Under the central government's policy for comprehensive development of the entire NE region, Indian Railways has planned to connect all the state capitals of the north-eastern parts. Around ₹1,000 crore has already been allocated for the Bairabi – Sairang project and it is being executed by the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) in Mizoram. From Bhairabi there will be four stations namely, Hortoki, Kawnpui, Mualkhang, and Sairang along the new line. Railway has targeted to complete the project by 2023. The length of the entire project is 51.38 km and involves ₹5521.45 crore investment. Along with the project, there will be 55 major and 87 minor bridges and will also have 5 Road Over Bridges (ROBs) and 6 Road Under Bridges (RUBs). The entire project will also involve the construction of several tunnels and the completion of all the proposed rail connectivity projects of the region will lead to the transformation of the northeast through better transportation facilities.

Better rail connectivity will lead to economic development not only of the local populace but also the entire NE region. Traders of the state will be able to bring items of daily consumption as well as construction materials in a much cheaper, cost-effective, and eco-friendly way. Similarly, farmers will be able to send their produce to the wider market of the various states at cheaper rates in a time-bound manner.
