India Targets 5 MMT Green Hydrogen Capacity by 2030 Under National Green Hydrogen Mission

Several initiatives have been rolled out to reduce the cost of green hydrogen. Under the Electrolyser Manufacturing Incentive Scheme, 15 companies have been awarded a manufacturing capacity of 3,000 MW per annum, backed by incentives worth Rs 4,440 crore. Another 18 companies have secured a cumulative production capacity of 8,62,000 tonnes per annum under the Green Hydrogen Production Incentive Scheme. Additionally, 2 companies have been awarded a total capacity of 20,000 tonnes per annum under the procurement scheme for refineries.
To further support cost reduction, green hydrogen and green ammonia plants commissioned by 31 December 2030 using renewable energy have been granted a 25-year exemption from Inter State Transmission System (ISTS) charges. Units in Special Economic Zones (SEZs) are also eligible for duty benefits under Section 26 of the SEZ Act, 2005 for setting up and maintaining renewable energy systems for captive use.
MNRE is also funding advanced R&D to accelerate domestic innovation, including the Rs 83.19 crore project on scaling and indigenising perovskite tandem solar cell technology.
