Govt. unveils 4,000 km roads in border belt

road infrastructure in the entire border
Boosting road infrastructure in the entire border belt in the Himalayan region, the Union government has decided to build a length of 4,000 km as building road infrastructure is a vital activity for securing borders and also improving the socio-economic condition of the masses in the area. The government has been focusing to boost infrastructure along Sino-India border, including the areas of dispute, following the Dokalam episode. Maintaining an all-weather road in the Upper Himalayan region was a serious concern for road construction agencies due to tough terrain, heavy snowfall, intense avalanches, sub-zero temperature, fragile geology and ecological concerns. The construction of tunnels is the only viable option to ensure all-weather connectivity and meeting ecological and environmental concerns.
