The Union government has targeted a total length of metro rail corridor in the country to become 600 km by 2020, the concerned minister said at a function of extending the Kochi Metro till Maharaja's College Ground. With the extension of the stretch by 5 km, the total length of the Metro rail corridor operational in the country has become 383 km and another 523 km of Metro stretches are at various stages of construction and the government will achieve the targeted length in the next two years. He added that the Centre had revised its Metro rail policy recently and hopes that the states will also resubmit their proposals for the second phase in tune with the new Metro rail policy. The Union Ministry will consider the revised proposal in a favorable manner, he insisted.
