Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari said that the central government will work out a lasting solution to the water woes of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh by implementing the ambitious ₹60,000 crore Godavari-Cauvery river linking project. Currently, nearly 1,100 tmc of river water goes into the Bay of Bengal near Polavaram in Andhra Pradesh. The project has been aimed at saving water by linking the two rivers as the central government had already allotted funds for this project and the work would be commissioned once the new government forms at the Centre. He said Tamil Nadu‘s rights in the Cauvery water sharing issue would be protected through the Cauvery Water Management Board.
