The Union transport ministry launches multiple infra projects in Andhra Pradesh entailing an investment worth Rs. 11,168 crore, said transport minister, Nitin Gadkari, elaborating that he laid the foundation stone for 6 national highway projects commanding a length of 315 km and entailing an investment worth Rs. 4,153 crore. In addition, he also laid the foundation stone for development of National Waterway Four (Kakinada-Puducherry). In the first phase of the project, the stretch between Muktayala to Vijayawada will be developed at an investment of Rs.7,015 crore where the length of the waterway is 315 km. He also said adding that the Centre would spend more than Rs.1 lakh crore on improving the national highways in Andhra Pradesh and it would give a tremendous boost to its development. Under the Sagaramala project, several port-related projects would be taken up in the State. The capacity of the Visakhapatnam port would be expanded and the Visakhapatnam-Chennai industrial corridor was another major project which would benefit the State enormously as it is being taken up on fast tracked basis.
