Govt hastens 340-km expressway project in UP

Construction of the 340-km Purvanchal Expressway has been fast tracked, informed Chief Secretary of UP, Anup Chandra Pandey. The six-lane Purvanchal Expressway (expandable to eight lanes), will have 19 flyovers, 7 road over bridges, 7 major bridges, 123 minor bridges, 223 underpasses, 491 culverts and 4 wire ducts along the entire route crisscrossing Amethi, Sultanpur, Azamgarh and Ghazipur. The Lucknow-Azamgarh-Ghazipur-expressway which was renamed as Purvanchal Expressway will connect the historic towns of Ghazipur and Azamgarh with the state capital, Lucknow. Pandey added that the major chunk of groundwork in and around Amethi had been completed including 96 percent of the land acquisition for the project in Amethi and construction work is about to begin shortly with its completion date set for August 2020.
