Govt fast tracks Rs. 11,450-cr metro project

In an attempt to provide hassle-free transport facilities to the residents, the Divisional Commissioner, Alok Sinha, has cleared the final Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Meerut Metro project entailing an investment worth Rs. 11,450cr. In this connection, he said adding that the civic body is sending the proposal to the state government and construction is likely to begin early next year and will be commissioned by 2022. Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES), General Manager, Piyush Kansal, said. Adding that the corridor I (Partapur-Modipuram) will be 19.7 km in length whereby, 11.6 km will be elevated and 7.2 km underground with 16 stations, 11 of which will be elevated and five underground. Apart from transport facilities, the Meerut Metro will also provide new employment opportunities for local youth, besides boosting tourism and allied industries in and around the city.
