The Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) has proposed to construct three rail-under-bridges (RuBs) and two road-over-bridges (RoBs) at railway crossing gates to resolve traffic problems plaguing the city. In this connection, the GMC held talks with railway officials to construct the RuBs with an estimation of Rs 20 crore each at Sanjivayya Nagar and Nehru Nagar, and RuB at Arundelpet at a cost of Rs 30 crore to resolve frequent traffic snarls in these areas. It also proposed a plan to construct the RoBs at Nandivelugu and Gaddipadu areas entailing an estimated cost of Rs 50 crore and Rs.85 crore, respectively. After putting all the mandatory permissions in place, the GMC officials will take necessary steps for the construction of RoB works at Nandivelugu and Gaddipadu. These apart, the state government has also decided to construct the RoB at Arundelpet with an estimation of Rs 175 crore. With the grant of permission from the railways, the GMC is ready to start the RuB works at Sanjivayya Nagar in Guntur and the remaining two RuB works would be taken up after the clearance is granted by the appropriate authorities.
