Farewell to a Visionary: Remembering K.B. Jayaram

The passing of K.B. Jayaram marks a significant loss to the Indian industry. A visionary entrepreneur and philanthropist, he leaves behind a legacy of innovation and compassion. His contributions to the construction and manufacturing sectors, particularly in Bangalore, have shaped the city’s skyline. Beyond business, Jayaram’s philanthropic endeavours have touched countless lives. His absence will be deeply felt, but his memory will continue to inspire. A true inspiration for every generation!
Sri K.B. Jayaram was born on December 12, 1938, in Kethamaranahalli, a village in Bangalore, into a family of farmers. During his childhood, education was a privilege reserved for a select few, and as a result, he could only complete his schooling up to matriculation. However, his unwavering ambition and thirst for knowledge ignited a desire to pursue higher education. This determination led him to seek out additional educational courses, allowing him to acquire foundational knowledge in construction and business management.
Armed with this practical insight, he made the pivotal decision to establish his own construction company. Over the years, this enterprise gained accolades, earning the prestigious Class 1 contractor designation from both the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) and the Public Works Department (PWD). His career as a contractor flourished as he undertook numerous projects across Bangalore. Many of these developments, marked by their innovative designs and quality construction, have become celebrated landmarks and residential communities, contributing significantly to the city’s architectural landscape.
In 1976, Jayaram ventured into the manufacturing sector by founding Parijatha, a mosaic tile manufacturing company. With his wealth of experience, he set up a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility that incorporated the most advanced machinery and technology available in India at that time. His dedication to producing superior-quality products, combined with a commitment to excellent customer service, quickly elevated Parijatha to become a well-known name in the market, achieving unprecedented growth in popularity over the years.
When his son Ramesh joined the family business, he brought with him a wealth of knowledge acquired through his training in Germany. Together, they recognized the crucial importance of paving blocks for modern urban infrastructure, including footpaths, villas, and apartments. They launched a new manufacturing facility utilizing the latest technology and machinery imported from Germany and Italy. This innovative venture was pioneering in the state, as the concept of using paving blocks was still relatively new to the local community. Jayaram’s company was instrumental in introducing kerb stones and pavers to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), changing the way people approached urban planning and construction.
Further expanding his business endeavours and vision, he inaugurated Parijatha Gateway, a deluxe hotel located in the bustling heart of the city. This establishment provides guests with modern amenities and unparalleled comfort, along with a restaurant that has become a favourite spot for numerous patrons who appreciate its delightful cuisine.
