EAC earmarks $408-mn for airport expansion

The Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) under the Indian Ministry of Environment has recently granted permission for the proposed $408.7-mn expansion of Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad. GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL), which manages the airport, intends to expand its capacity to 25 million passengers each year from the existing 12 million passengers, said media reports, claiming that after detailed deliberations, the EAC recommended the project for environmental clearance and stipulated specific conditions along with other environmental conditions while considering for accord of environmental clearance (for airport expansion programme). The master plan for the project suggests that the ultimate capacity of the airport is expected to reach up to 40 million passengers annually.
