Delhi Government to Reconstitute Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation for Revamp of Old Delhi

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that the Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation (SRDC) will soon be reconstituted to revive the heritage and traditional character of the Walled City.

She chaired a high-level meeting to accelerate the government’s plan to redevelop and beautify Old Delhi, emphasising that the administration is committed to restoring the area’s historic and cultural identity while improving civic amenities for residents and traders. Gupta said that major plans are being prepared for the holistic development of the old city, and directions have been issued to expedite all ongoing improvement works.

Addressing the shortage of women’s toilets in crowded market areas, the Chief Minister instructed officials to immediately construct Pink Toilets to enhance public convenience and safety.

Gupta confirmed that the Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation will be revamped and all redevelopment and revitalisation efforts in the Walled City will be carried out through the renewed body. The reconstituted SRDC will include qualified heritage conservation experts to ensure that development aligns with the historical essence of Shahjahanabad.
