CSMT station gets upgrade worth ₹1,642-cr

Union Railway Ministry Piyush Goyal informed that the Western Railway has launched the redevelopment of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) Railway Station in Mumbai and on completion it will have separate arrival and departure equipped with disabled-friendly facilities. The redevelopment plan encapsulates integration of various modes to make the railway station a multimodal transport hub housing energy-efficient buildings and restoring the heritage site as per its 1930 levels. The redevelopment plan also included the construction of 25 lakh sq ft real estate built-up area and the entire project commands four years construction period involving ₹1,642 crore investment. The railway station will function like a city centre rail mall and in addition to transportation requirements, daily needs will also be fulfilled to avoid unnecessary travel within the city. On completion, the railway station will provide multiple access points to passengers for easy commute and direct linkage between suburban railway, harbor line, long-distance rail network, metro rail and commercial development.
