Chennai Metro’s TBM Thamirabarani Crosses Chetpet Station and Lake

Chennai Metro Rail's tunnel boring machine (TBM) Thamirabarani has successfully passed beneath the Chetpet suburban railway station and lake, marking a key milestone in Corridor 3 of the 118.9-km Phase-II project.

The 45.8-km-long Corridor 3, connecting Madhavaram to Siruseri, cuts through prominent areas such as Chetpet, Kilpauk Medical College (KMC), Nungambakkam, Mylapore, and Adyar. TBM Thamirabarani, tasked with boring the underground stretch between Chetpet and KMC, has completed 260 metres of the 677-metre section, steadily progressing through complex urban terrain.
