MoRTH, NHAI Host National Seminar to Shape Road Safety Policy 2025

To strengthen road safety and encourage behavioural change among road users, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) organised a day-long ‘National Brainstorming Seminar on Road Safety Policy 2025’ in New Delhi.
The seminar brought together key stakeholders—including senior officials from central and state governments, international organisations like the World Bank and WHO, and road safety experts—to discuss actionable strategies for inclusion in the upcoming National Road Safety Policy.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari stressed the importance of integrating safety interventions at the Detailed Project Report (DPR) stage of road planning. He called for data-driven, evidence-based solutions and underlined the impact of small, low-cost measures in preventing fatalities, especially in critical zones such as near schools.
Shri V Umashankar, Secretary, MoRTH said, “Road safety is a cause that touches every citizen. This brainstorming session is an important step toward shaping the National Road Safety Policy 2025. Our goal is to have concrete, evidence-based, and implementable recommendations across all aspects of road safety. We have a clear objective to drastically reduce fatalities by 2030. With the collective participation from all stakeholders, we can make India a global model for road safety. This daylong seminar is a platform for collaborative action, and I am sure this will lead to building a safer, smarter road ecosystem across the country.”
