The Ministry of Tourism has issued operational guidelines for the ‘Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) – Development of Iconic Tourist Centres to Global Scale’ for FY 2024-25. Under this initiative, the Government of India has sanctioned 40 tourism projects worth Rs 3,295.76 crore to upgrade iconic destinations and position them for global branding and marketing.

Projects were selected based on proposals submitted by State Governments and evaluated against parameters such as connectivity, tourism ecosystem, carrying capacity, sustainability measures, project impact, long-term operations and management, and marketing plans. The scheme also encourages States to undertake consultations with stakeholders and local communities while preparing Detailed Project Reports (DPRs).

While the sanctioned projects are implemented by the respective State Governments, the Ministry of Tourism conducts periodic reviews and urges States to expedite progress to ensure timely completion.
