The Centre has sanctioned ₹6,804 crore for new national highways and a four-lane bridge across the Ganga, parallel to the existing Vikramshila Setu near Barari Ghat in Bhagalpur district. The projects would be over and above the special package that PM had announced for the state. The 8 projects sanctioned by the Centre include 357-km of additional NH of which 112-km stretch is to be four-lane and the remaining 245-km will be 10 metres wide. The 4.37-km-long bridge entails a cost of ₹1,900 crore and would have a 10.6-km-long approach road on both sides. The bridge would be constructed by the NHAI and the roads by the NH wing of the state’s road construction department. The projects cleared include a four-lane NH 50km Samastipur-Darbhanga road at a cost of ₹1,612 crore and 62 km of Bhagalpur-Dhaka Mor road at an expenditure of ₹1,121 crore. The 10-m wide NH and the expenditures cleared at the meeting include the 64km-long Buxar-Chausa-Mohania road (₹960 crore), 75km of Hajipur-Bachhwara road (₹552 crore), 18km of Sarwan-Chakai road (₹80 crore), 78km of Rosera-Bahedi Darbhanga road (₹452 crore) and 10km-long Saraigarh-Lalganj-Ganpatganj road (₹127 crore), said an official spokesperson.
