In a major booster to the urban areas of Punjab, the Union government has to clear a total investment of about Rs.11,000 crore for upgrading the urban clusters of the state, Union Minister of state for housing and urban affairs Hardeep Singh Puri said that urban clusters of Golden Temple, Jallianwala Bagh, Durgiana Mandir and Ram Tirath will be given a complete facelift. Elaborating further, he said adding that Rs.4,000 crore has been approved for Punjab for implementation of new missions such as the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), Smart City Mission, Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana (HRIDAY) and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). Moreover, housing for all scheme of the Union government has just been initiated as the current government has sanctioned 42,497 houses for Punjab with an investment of Rs.1,182 crore and that 16 cities and towns with a population of over 1 lakh each have been included in the AMRUT as these cities and towns account for 60% of urban population of Punjab, he added.
