BMRL plans triple-decker bridges in Bangalore

triple-decker bridges
The government of Karnataka is contemplating triple-decker bridges for suburban trains, metro and road traffic, respectively, on select stretches in the Bangalore city. The levels, however, can be decided at the execution stages of the city's ambitious suburban railway project. In this connection, the CM called upon the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation and the railways to sort out the issues wherever metro and suburban network alignment is overlapping. BMRCL sources said that the planning of the suburban railway network should include approved metro plans as decided by the Union urban development ministry. However, the Railways maintained that satellite towns like Tumakuru, Mandya, Rajanakunte, Hosur and Whitefield have been covered in the DPR. The Railways also explained that across the world, the rate of return for mass transportation systems is not very encouraging as economic factors are secondary in such ventures. South Western Railways officials said 950 acres of land is required for the project of which 650 acres will be provided by the railways and 150 each by the state government and private individuals
