The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is all set to start ₹1,862 crore worth of infrastructure projects, including white-topping and rejuvenation of storm water drains and lakes. Chief secretary TM Vijay Bhaskar has also issued an order to speed up ongoing infrastructure projects of ₹7,036 crore and start new ones soon in Karnataka. The order was necessary as many of the project proposals are stuck at the tender or work order stage in different departments and civic officials were seeking exemption from the poll code to go ahead with the works. A screening committee headed by the CS had earlier sought exemption from the model code of conduct to invite and finalize such tender proposals and to issue work orders relating to infrastructure/development works, procurement of goods and other services. The commission has approved the proposal to provide general exemption for inviting, finalizing tender and issuing work orders when the code of conduct comes to an end.
