In a first ever project to ease traffic congestion in the city, the State government has drawn up plans for a flyover crisscrossing another flyover at crowded Ganeshguri point on the outskirts of state capital Dispur. In this connection, the State Public Works Department (PWD) has entrusted the Sentinel, a reputed firm, to conduct a comprehensive study to construct a 1.2-km flyover from Ganesh Mandir in Dispur to Nursery bus stop on RG Barua Road by crisscrossing the existing Ganeshguri flyover. The firm has already started its project and is currently studying traffic volume on the stretch from Ganesh Mandir to Nursery. The study is expected to be completed very shortly after which the PWD will take up the matter with Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal for final approval. Construction of the proposed flyover is likely to be started within the current fiscal year itself. This will be the first ever flyover crisscrossing another flyover in Assam as well as the entire Northeast. The designing of the proposed flyover will be crucial as it will crisscross the existing flyover. The height and length will be determined after proper study and suggestions by experts.
