AP speeds up ₹8,300-cr Vizag metro project

The state government in Andhra Pradesh has fast tracked the 42.55 km Vizag Metro Rail (VMR) project entailing an investment of ₹8,300 crore, informed Principal Secretary, Civic Body, R Karikal Valaven. As many as 38 stations have been planned covering the three corridors (30.8-km of Kommadi-Gajuwaka, Gurudwara-Old Post Office of 5.25 km, and Thatichetlapalem-China Waltair of 6.5 km) in the project. Of the total project cost, 51% is civil infrastructure and 49% for non-civil. The project is the biggest venture proposed under the PPP model. As regards the Amaravati Metro Rail project, he revealed that the government is ready to provide 250 acres of land for commercial and residential colonies, shopping malls, and an IT SEZ as they would generate revenue towards the cost of the land. Five parties have been shortlisted and the tender process will be completed shortly.
