ADB clears $350-mn for road sector in Chhattisgarh

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has cleared a $350 million loan for upgrading the state highways and major district roads in Chhattisgarh. ADB Transport Specialist Andri Heriawan said that the total cost of the multiple road projects will be $521.69 million, of which the government will finance $171.69 million. Chhattisgarh has about 96 percent rural area, and is rich in natural resources; it is a major producer of coal and iron ore. An efficient road network will significantly contribute to the state's economy and development, boost healthcare and education, and facilitate socio-economic growth opportunities.
