Adani Ports Orders ₹450 Cr Tugs from Cochin Shipyard

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) has placed a ₹450 crore order with Cochin Shipyard Ltd for the construction of eight conventional harbor tugs. Despite the Union government’s push for a green tug transition program, the deal does not include eco-friendly technologies.

Harbor tugs, crucial for berthing and ship assistance, are well-suited for adopting green technologies like electric propulsion and alternative fuels. Such innovations could significantly reduce emissions while maintaining efficiency, but this opportunity has been missed in the current order.
