AAI unveils Rs. 17,000-cr airports' upgrade

Under the national civil aviation policy focusing on the regional connectivity, AAI has decided to make about 200 airports functional in the next few years at an investment of Rs. 17,000cr, Union Minister, Jayant Sinha said, elaborating that as per plans, the AAI will strive for upgrading and modernizing its airdromes. Currently, there are 75 functional airports in the country and to achieve the laid down targets, nodal aviation body has thrown open the sector to create regional aviation market. It may be recalled that the government had in June this year announced its civil aviation policy for massive airports expansion to strengthen its airport infrastructure through PPP mode by building greenfield airports, which would in turn push its passengers’ handling capacity to new highs, he added.
