32 km Highway Declared National Highway for Vadhavan Port Project

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has officially declared a 32 km stretch from NH 48 (Tawa Junction) to the planned Vadhavan Port as a national highway. This significant development, announced through a gazette notification on 12 August, aims to streamline land acquisition for the proposed 8-lane road link to the new port.
The national highway status for this road segment is crucial for the Vadhavan Port project, which is being spearheaded by the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA). The port project, valued at Rs 76,220 crore, is a key infrastructure initiative for the region. With the road link now under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) Act, the process of land acquisition will be more straightforward. However, the cost associated with land acquisition will be covered by Vadhavan Port Project Ltd (VPPL), the special purpose vehicle responsible for implementing the port project.
