TEREX Material Processing Division's Indian Manufacturing Facility

Terex Material Processing's state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at Hosur, near Bengaluru is a complete integrated set-up, producing range of Crushing, Screening and Washing Equipment adhering the International Quality Standards. P.P. Basistha had an opportunity to take a stock of the facility.

The Manufacturing facility at Hosur is an integral part of Terex strategy for aggressive growth in India and the surrounding regions. According to the recent interaction with Jaideep Shekhar, Executive Director, Terex Materials Processing, the Indian facility is described as the company's manifestation towards long-term business commitment for the Indian Crushing and Screening market. The Manufacturing facility which was started in the year 2009 was completed in a record time of 10.5 months from the beginning of the project. The start of the Indian facility was an important milestone for Terex who are committed to localization of the product range as per international design, reducing lead times for their customers and also support the "Make in India" initiative.

The products from the flagship "Powescreen" brand were the first machines to be manufactured at the facility followed by other products such as the Wheel Mounted Plants and the Washing Equipment. Terex has also recently started making the extensive range of Modular Equipment at the facility. The manufacturing practices at the facility are in line with the global standards and a mirror image of what is being practiced at the company's overseas facilities. There are regular audits of the processes and the facility by third party and internal audit teams to ensure that the Indian plant quality is at par with International standards.

A visit to the factory substantiates the claims are well backed by facts. The facility features lean manufacturing systems to make production cost competitive. The facility houses a fabrication shop and weld stations for quality fabrication and welding of the components.

One of the vital facility of the plant are its multiple levels of testing on each component / machine before being moved the next stage of production. There are also separate testing bays for the crusher chambers. According to senior plant officials, multiple testing procedures have been put in place to ensure higher reliability of equipment.

One of the prominent features of the plant is the Track Assembly Bay. The Hosur plant makes complete tracks for their in-house use and exports. Complete with a state of the art rock testing laboratory, the Hosur plant operates on the production principle of 5S. Given the high standards of manufacturing and quality followed at the plant, it is well expected that this would be a key part of Terex success in India.
