Culture of Innovation at the Terex Hosur Manufacturing Centre of Excellence
Terex India’s Hosur facility in Tamil Nadu, a sprawling 45-acre complex, is a testament to the company’s continuous improvements. At the heart of this lies a robust operating system that is applied to all Terex Materials Processing sites globally. This system acts as the central nervous system of the facility, streamlining processes and empowering teams to deliver excellence. It places a strong emphasis on Health, Safety and Environment to provide a safe working environment for its team members and minimise the environmental impact of its operations. It also provides a customer focus to ensure that team members remain responsive to customer needs, delivering solutions that meet their specific requirements and deadlines.Sustainability: A Core Value
India's construction sector is fuelled by ambitious infrastructure projects and there's a growing need to minimise the environmental impact of construction activities. Terex India, a global leader in materials processing equipment, is at the forefront of addressing these challenges through innovative business models, digital technologies, and a commitment to sustainability.Environmental responsibility is deeply embedded at Terex India, which is reflected in many of the team’s achievements. Earlier this year, Terex India launched an Urban Forestation Drive at its Hosur facility, an ambitious project to plant 3,000 trees to enhance the surrounding ecosystem and contribute to the well-being of the community in which it operates.
In 2023, over half of the machines sold by Terex India were electric, significantly reducing emissions compared to traditional diesel-powered models. The company has also implemented a series of initiatives designed to minimise the environmental footprint of their operations, including reducing truck usage for material transportation to reduce fuel consumption and emissions and switching to energy-efficient LED lighting throughout the facility, further reducing their energy consumption. We have also taken steps to improve the efficiency of our diesel generators by introducing carbon reduction equipment. When combined, these measures contribute significantly to a more sustainable future for the construction industry.
Optimising Operations Through Digital Transformation
Terex India has embarked on a comprehensive digitalisation journey that encompasses all aspects of its operations. From the moment an order is placed to the final delivery and operation of the machine, a digital system provides a "single source of truth" for data. This not only enhances internal efficiency but also empowers distributors and improves the customer experience. Digital tools are supporting inventory planning and pricing, help desk, availability of spare parts to provide a seamless experience for both Terex India and its customers.TEXCON: A Hub for Innovation and Collaboration
Terex India hosted a successful TEXCON event at its Hosur facility to showcase this commitment to collaboration and progress. Held in 2023 under the theme "Where Technology Meets Sustainability," TEXCON brought together approximately 250 industry leaders to discuss emerging trends and showcase innovative solutions from the diverse range of equipment representing the broad portfolio of brands it manufactures locally. This included Terex® MPS, Powerscreen®, Finlay®, Terex® Washing Systems, Franna®, EvoQuip®, and Terex® Rough Terrain Cranes. A special feature of TEXCON was the Innovation Centre, a platform to showcase Terex engineering capabilities, online parts ordering system, and telematics.Building a Strong Workforce
Terex India recognises the importance of its people and encourages a culture of continuous improvement through programmes like ‘Future Leaders’ and global training initiatives. A sense of community is fostered across its teams through engaging activities. An example is the recent Terex Premier League Cricket Tournament, where team members from various departments at its Hosur facility got together to exhibit their cricketing skills while promoting a sense of fun and belonging within the Terex family.A Legacy of Growth and Commitment
Since 2009, Terex India's Hosur facility has grown significantly. Initially manufacturing Powerscreen mobile crushing and screening equipment, it now produces equipment for multiple Terex brands catering for aggregates, mining, environmental and lifting industries, as well as having expanded its export footprint to multiple continents.More recently, Terex India has opened a new Assembly facility dedicated to the manufacturing of Franna "Made in India" Pick and Carry Cranes. Spanning over 3,500 square metres, the facility is equipped with the latest technology and assembly equipment to meet the rising demand for safe, high-quality cranes in India. The new facility and team behind it will support the production of Franna pick and carry cranes that reflect Terex standards of reliability and performance, embodying Terex India's commitment to elevating manufacturing standards for the India market. Terex India has already begun the production of Terex Rough Terrain Cranes for the India market.
Terex India's dedication to innovation, sustainability, and its workforce positions them as a leader in the Indian construction equipment sector. As we prepare to celebrate its 15th anniversary, the teams' commitment and readiness to scale operations and adapt to evolving market dynamics ensures a bright future for the local team in India, and the construction industry in India as a whole.
