Ranjit More, Universal
Mr. Ranjit More,
Vice Chairman & M.D.
Focusing on vertical MH, we open New Entity ‘Universal Axis’
Universal Axis, a new venture of Universal Group, is focusing on vertical material handling equipment with attention to precise design of the equipment. Since customer requirement changes from project to project, there are 5 categories and 25 different products in this segment.
Our newly introduced Speedo series of Rack and Pinion Hoists has gained huge popularity in the market due to its most safe operations and its right pricing. Our precise design and engineering has ensured less maintenance than other brands.
India is coming up with 100 smart city projects and metros are expanding, and the only way to develop is by going vertical. In such a scenario, demand for vertical material handling will increase.
R&D is our backbone
R&D is the backbone of our company and we are continuously developing new products which will save power requirement, be more efficient and productive, and have smart digital control systems.
Universal has adopted automation by way of smart system almost four years back. We call this system Black Box; it gives alerts on overload, failure of component, and maintenance requirement, which helps the customer to save on breakdown time and get maintenance done at the earliest sign of a fault in the machine.
Target to be a Rs.500 crore company
Universal has set up a manufacturing plant to produce Rs.750 cr worth of equipment. Due to an unstable market in the last 5 years, the CE sector was worst hit, and we were not able to deliver. But now, with the proactive steps being taken by the government in infrastructure development, Universal is also adding new products to meet anticipated demand. So, we will be soon achieving our target with our increased production capacity and wide customer reach.
We are offering end-to-end solutions
Universal provides end-to-end solutions to its customers, from mapping of mechanization needs to advising on equipment selection as per their project. We also assist in getting loans from finance companies; provide training to operators; offer onsite annual maintenance contracts; and buy back old machines and refurbish them with new technical features. We are also working on the hire-purchase model which will help customer to buy machines.
There are positive sentiments in the CE Industry, especially in Infrastructure and Road sectors. Our inquiry level has increased substantially compared to last year. The variety of batching plant options we provide to customers are always in demand.
We are exporting to over 40 countries
Universal is exporting to more than 40 countries. It is associated with TATA Africa Holdings for East and West Africa. The MENA region is operated from our Dubai office, and we have dealerships in GCC countries. Currently, there is good demand from North Africa, Egypt, and Algeria. Our flagship products like Reversible Mixer, and Mid-Size batching plants are widely accepted in these regions. Our export market is handled by Universal International Business Pvt. Ltd., which also deals in Earthmoving and other ancillary equipment as per the requirement.
