Bhupinder Singh, CEO, bauma CONEXPO INDIA
Bhupinder Singh, CEO, bauma CONEXPO INDIA, shares the importance of this trade show in forging strategic partnerships and unlocking business opportunities for India’s construction equipment, mining and heavy vehicles sector over the years, and what the construction and infrastructure development ecosystem can expect at the upcoming 2023 edition.

After a successful bauma Munich show (despite a looming recession), what is your prediction for the show in a country like India, which has become the third largest construction industry in the world after the USA and China, and is seeing a lot of ongoing and upcoming infra development projects?
India is well on its way towards becoming the world’s second largest construction equipment market and the manufacturing hub of the world. Construction equipment sales in the second quarter of this fiscal year showed an 8% y-o-y growth with healthy performance on the export front as well.

As one of the leading trade fair organizers in the country with experience in multiple industries, we can see growing interest from global OEMs to manufacture and source from India. No doubt, bauma 2022 in Munich was a phenomenal success with active participation at the Indian Pavilion, and we are confident of expanding this interest and engagement at bauma CONEXPO INDIA 2023.

India’s vibrant infra-development landscape offers global manufacturers an opportunity to convert relationships into real business. With over $1 trillion pledged as infra investments in India over the next five years, there is no better platform for companies to hedge their bets against global inflationary pressures by meaningfully engaging with the Indian construction ecosystem through bauma CONEXPO INDIA 2023.

How does the theme of the event ‘Future of Nation Building’ align with stakeholders’ interests?
In keeping with our theme ‘Future of Nation Building’, we have continued many of our strategic industry partnerships and forged new networks in the interest of the construction vehicles and heavy machinery segment. We are delighted to receive support from the Honorable Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari ji and the Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways, as well as the National Highways Association of India (NHAI). We also have support through the extensive participation of industry associations like ICEMA, NAREDCO, Builders Association of India (BAI), and many others. Thus, bauma CONEXPO INDIA 2023 is truly a meeting place for industry leaders and nation builders.

bauma CONEXPO INDIA enjoys support from all the major industry associations and stakeholders in the infra-development ecosystem because we constantly engage with them for mutual growth and prosperity. By organizing roadshows, industry meets, and curated conferences throughout the year, we believe in staying close to our customers and understanding their business to curate vibrant marketplaces for them. Apart from industry engagement in India and its neighbouring markets, we also enjoy the vast international network of bauma in Munich and the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) in North America. All these efforts will culminate in the dynamic participation of domestic and international participants at our show.

Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM)

What preparations are underway for bauma CONEXPO INDIA 2023? Please give the number of indoor exhibition halls and outdoor display spaces planned.
We have occupied the entire venue at India Expo Mart Centre at Greater Noida during our show days (31 January to 3 February 2023). At this edition, we intend to exceed all expectations and provide a seamless experience for all stakeholders. Over the past editions, we have earned the industry’s trust and credibility for curating well-planned exhibition spaces, including focused conferences, buyer-seller meetings, and live-action demo areas.

bauma CONEXPO INDIA 2023 will be a high-powered platform for the technologies and innovations in the construction equipment that are scripting India’s infra development story

North India is the epicentre of infra development today, and hence all our stakeholders are excited about our venue at the India Expo Centre in Greater Noida. We have provision for parking over 18,000 cars in and around the venue. This space offers easy connectivity by road and metro. We are confident that all these facilities, combined with our effective planning, will ensure a memorable and meaningful experience for participants.

What promotional activities has bauma CONEXPO INDIA planned to attract buyers from India and overseas markets?
We have planned extensive promotional activities to attract visitors. We have launched several feet-on-the-street campaigns to engage with local equipment buyer communities such as infra developers and contractors of roads, railways, and mining projects. Our promotional campaigns and activities mainly target buyers from smaller cities and geographies where construction activity is on an upswing.

For instance, we have planned the Bharat Nirman Mahotsav, a vehicle that will travel to construction sites across states in North India like UP, Punjab, Haryana, and many others. We have also planned roadshows across major markets like Delhi, Lucknow, Jaipur, Bangladesh, and Nepal to inspire visitor footfalls. All these engagement activities will encourage meaningful conversations in the industry and culminate in visitor interest in our show.

Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM)

What is your estimate of the number of exhibitors and visitors expected and from which countries?
India’s infra development program is the real hero at this edition. In this context, we are confident of enabling meaningful handshakes and unlocking business opportunities for the entire construction ecosystem through our platform. This year, we will have over 600 technology suppliers from 20+ countries, showcasing 10,000+ products and solutions. In keeping with our sharp focus on unlocking business opportunities for all our participants, we have arranged 5000+ buyer-seller meetings and 20+ knowledge focussed conferences.

What have you planned by way of B2B meetings, educational programs, conferences, and seminars at the event? Please share some themes and topics that will be discussed.
Our conferences will focus on evolving technologies in the Indian industry and best practices from the global industry. Uttar Pradesh is leading the country’s rapid infra-expansion plans. Our show will bring together public and private sector leaders who will discuss the scope and challenges within the state’s existing development projects.

This edition will see a special focus on machinery innovations for the mining sector, especially pertaining to energy efficiency and safety measures. We will also focus on the construction equipment industry’s skill-building initiatives to create quality jobs in this space. For this, we are collaborating with associations and skill development councils to conduct special training programs, including classroom and practical sessions.

Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM)

As the industry is moving towards ‘Way to Zero Emission’ with OEMs innovating sustainable products and technologies, what new green products and equipment can visitors expect to see at the show?
The construction and infra-development industry is particularly enthusiastic about electric vehicles and machinery, both for emission control and operational cost reduction through substitution of fossil fuel dependence. Hence, we will see a comprehensive portfolio of electric solutions at our show, both at the exhibitor stalls and at the demo areas.

What kind of leverage will bauma CONEXPO INDIA 2023 give to the growing CE rental Industry?
With increasing business for rental companies through aggressive infra-development plans across the country, our show offers them the right platform to showcase their advantages and express their concerns regarding high-value projects. Some of our key industry partners in the rental equipment segment are the Construction Equipment Rental Association (CERA), Crane Owners Association of India (COAOI), and Aerial Platform Association of India (APAOI), to name a few.

Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM)

What measures are being taken to ensure security, smooth traffic flow, transportation, and accommodation for the exhibitors and visitors?
The venue is ideally suited for large machinery displays and high-volume footfalls. With good connectivity through public and private transport, ample parking space, and availability of quality hotels, restaurants, and recreation options in the vicinity, we hope that all our Indian and international visitors will have a seamless and memorable experience.

For enhanced safety and security measures, we will also have colleagues from Munich who will oversee certain aspects of the protocol. bauma CONEXPO INDIA makes business happen, and in this first face-to-face edition since the pandemic, we will leave a lasting impression on all our exhibitors and visitors.
