waterproofing compound for cement mortar & concrete
According to Saurabh Agarwal, Managing Director, Kamdhenu Colour & Coatings Limited, the company owes its success to the high quality of their products and the value proposition they bring to the end-users.

What waterproofing and other surface protective solutions is the company offering?
Kamdhenu Paints has a wide range of Construction Chemicals like Kamocrete CRP (Concrete Repair Product), Kamoproof ALW (waterproofing compound for cement mortar & concrete), Kamofin 2K (Acrylic Cementitious waterproof coating), and KamoShora Seal (Nanotechnology-based anti-efflorescent primer for building surfaces) etc.

Waterproofing and protective coatings such as paints act as an active barrier to protect structural components and buildings from the harsh environmental conditions such as heavy monsoon rains, and tropical humidity. They are also in conformity with the need for energy conservation and sustainability, thus protecting the environment and enhancing integrity and lifespan of buildings.

We have adopted the latest technologies and sustainable manufacturing practices, and our in-house research centre undertakes R&D to enhance product quality as well as develop new products for the market. Our latest waterproofing product ‘Kamo Damp Proof’ is formulated using consolidated synthetic fibers and selected elastomeric robust acrylic polymers. The product forms a thick, seamless, and durable membrane on the surface to offer a best-in-class waterproofing solution for roofs and walls. Every product of Kamdhenu Paints has received tremendous appreciation from consumers because of the quality and value proposition that we offer. With ‘Kamo Damp Proof’, we intend to enhance our legacy of offering the best waterproofing solution for walls and roofs.

How is Kamdhenu creating awareness on sound application practices in the construction industry?
India has a huge untapped potential for high quality and cost-effective products. Kamdhenu has been at the forefront of driving awareness among various stakeholders including its manufacturing partners, distributors and retailers, by sharing best practices in the industry. We get feedback from stakeholders including potential end-users, based on which we organise awareness programs and training sessions for end-users like the painter community on product selection and their application techniques.

While there is relatively higher awareness on input materials such as the ideal composition of TMT bars, concrete mix, and quality of bricks for various types of construction, knowledge about the construction chemicals is, however, at a nascent level. We plan to leverage our experience in organizing training programs to promote sound application techniques of the construction chemicals in the market.

Waterproofing and construction chemicals are still not part of the curriculum for civil engineers; how can this issue be addressed at the academic level?
The need for including waterproofing and construction chemical as part of the curriculum for civil engineers at the academic level is necessary because of their contribution to sustainability and green requirements. The process of adding them in the curriculum for civil engineers can be achieved when the government and the industry decide to work together to identify course requirements and set standards for the course. From framing the curriculum to the mode for assessment and identification of teaching resources one must have the active participation from both the government and non-government stakeholders.

What are your plans to expand the Kamdhenu brand across India?
Kamdhenu Paints is geared up for sustained growth and expansion to meet consumer demands. We are in for a long inning with fast paced growth. We offer products with the best possible quality and the right pricing for the price conscious buyers; hence, our brand’s acceptability is high.

We have a substantial network across India and our aim is to further strengthen our foothold in the paint industry. We will be spending aggressively on advertising and promotions, and will focus on urban markets through institutional sales and enhance our brand’s penetration in the Southern markets.

For FY22, our paints revenue stood at Rs. 241 crore and is expected to reach a turnover of Rs. 1,000 crore in next five years on account of increased discretionary spend, urbanisation and positive macro tailwinds.
