Sharing his views on the demand trends for the CE market in 2013-14, he said that India being the world's seventh largest country by area and the second largest by population, was one of the most dynamically growing nations but had largely untapped construction equipment market. As road construction (national highways, state highways, and rural roads) was a major growth driver for the Indian infrastructure industry, he hoped approval for building 9500 km of highway projects would go a long way in ensuring growth. Further, the introduction of EPC model would help minimize the time and cost over-runs and enabled a faster roll-out of projects.
Informing about the government's proactive approach to infrastructure development, he states, "To accelerate the development process in the rural area, the government has already formulated various schemes. With increasing investment in the infrastructure sector, we foresee huge demand for road construction equipment manufacturers in the coming years. Also, as our government plans to work on the faster execution of the top priority projects, it will act as an enabler in keeping the momentum rolling. Further growth to the CE business will be from mining, irrigation, airports, and power sectors."
