Wipro Infrastructure Engineering (WIN), a part of Wipro, has recently set up an industrial automation unit to gain a large share of the nearly $400 million manufacturing automation market in India. The Indian industrial automation market is worth $2 billion and out of that, the opportunity for system integrators such as Wipro, TCS, Infosys, HCL Technologies is worth about $400 million, which is seeing 17-18% growth. The IT services major's infrastructure engineering unit, which is banking on automation of discrete manufacturing activities across industries such as automotive, construction equipment, will focus on India and ASEAN countries as its two key markets, CEO at WIN, Pratik Kumar, said, elaborating that the company has started discussion with prospective customers and would scout for both completely new industrial automation projects and contracts for automating activities of traditional manufacturing firms. It has evaluated the solutions and will have its first customers very shortly as the company's objective is to see WIN Automation among the top 3 system integrators in the discrete manufacturing automation business in the geographies it will operate in, he claimed.
