Wind power attracts 2,898 MW bids

The second auction for the allotment of 1,000 MW of wind power capacity has attracted bids to the tune of 2,898 MW. It may be recalled that the first auction, which was also held for 1,000 MW concluded in February this year, resulted in wind energy companies agreeing to sell wind energy for as low as Rs.3.46 KWhr. The auction was a milestone event in the history of India's renewable energy industry, as it changed the way tariffs are discovered, from negotiated Feed-in Tariffs to the cheaper tariffs discovered through competitive bidding, said an official spokesperson.
