Welspun Enterprises Limited (WEL) has secured a major contract from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to design, build and operate a 910 million litres per day (MLD) water treatment plant at Panjrapur, Maharashtra.

The project is valued at approximately Rs 3,145 crore and includes civil, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation works, along with the construction of a treated water sump and pumping station. The contract also includes an operation and maintenance (O&M) component worth around Rs 1,156 crore. A provisional sum of about Rs 29 crore is excluded from the total project cost.

The design and construction of the water treatment plant is expected to be completed in 48 months. Once commissioned, Welspun Enterprises will operate and maintain the facility for 15 years, ensuring continuous supply of treated water to Mumbai.

BK Goenka, Chairman, Welspun World, said, “The Panjrapur WTP project marks yet another significant step in Welspun Enterprises’ journey towards becoming a leading player in the water sector. After completion of this project and the 2000 MLD Bhandup WTP, we will be treating nearly 70% of Mumbai’s freshwater requirement, a milestone that resonates deeply with Welspun World’s vision of ‘Har Ghar se Har Dil Tak Welspun’. We are also making strong progress on the 418 MLD Dharavi Wastewater Treatment Facility, which, along with our other water and tunnelling projects in Mumbai, will enhance water reuse, promote circularity and embody our guiding principles of Green, Growth and Governance.”

Sandeep Garg, Managing Director, Welspun Enterprises Limited, remarked, “We are honoured to have been selected by the BMC for this vital initiative. With Mumbai’s rising demand for water driven by rapid urbanization, the Panjrapur WTP will play a crucial role in strengthening the city’s water supply system. The water sector remains a key strategic focus for us and this order synergises well with our overall growth strategy. Our steadfast focus on innovation and sustainability will enable us to deliver a world-class facility that not only meets Mumbai’s growing water needs but also achieves this with the lowest footprint, conserving land which remains a scarce resource in the city.”
