Wabtec to support Delhi-Meerut RRTS with $15-mn worth of components

Wabtec Corporation (NYSE WAB) has announced that it will support the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transport Systems (RRTS) with critical component orders worth $15 million for new rolling stock. The company will supply advanced technology brake systems, pantographs, roof disconnector switches and fully integrated passenger information systems to Alstom, which is building the coaches for the project. Preetam Ganguly Sales and MD of Wabtec India informed that this order and partnership with Alstom will open up multiple opportunities and provide Wabtec with a significant first-mover advantage in India on this rapidly evolving regional train platform as more corridors are implemented across the National Capital Region and other parts of the country. All products in the order have substantial Make in India content. The order covers 30 regional commuter trains each with 6 cars and 10 metro trains each with 4 cars, which will be built at Alstom's Savli plant in India. The high-performance brake system provides critical safety features, high reliability and reduced maintenance intervals. The high-speed pantographs are aerodynamically designed to perform under different overhead electric conditions. The component is equipped with state-of-the-art safety features such as an auto drop device and a maximum extension device including novel features like condition-based monitoring and smart-carbon strips. The passenger information systems provide state-of-the-art displays, audio, CCTV, dynamic route map and infotainment with auto-diagnostic features and high reliability. Alstom and Wabtec have a strong working relationship with experience collaborating on multiple projects across the globe. The entire fleet of 816 Alstom cars running in Delhi Metro is equipped with Wabtec's brakes system, pantographs, passenger access doors, as well as heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. The RRTS on the other hand is a new, dedicated, high-speed, high-capacity and comfortable commuter service.
