Virgin Hyperloop launches ground work on ₹60,500-cr road project
Virgin Hyperloop One has initiated multi-pronged steps to fast track the mega Mumbai-Pune road project in Maharashtra. The ultramodern, superfast transport project will reduce travel time between the two cities, located 200 km apart, from four hours to about 25 minutes. The company has been working with the state for the last two years. The construction work is likely to start shortly, informed director (operations), India, Virgin Hyperloop One, Naushad Oomer. The first phase of the project will be completed within four years and the second in another four years as the Maharashtra government has accorded infrastructure status to the project. In Mumbai, the project will be underground and will get elevated on the outskirts. The first phase of the project is 11.8-km-long and will cost $500 million (₹3,550 crore) and the company will make the investment with the backing of DP World, Dubai. The second phase will cost over $8 billion (₹57,000 crore) and the project is likely to be implemented in 60:40 debt-equity ratios, added Oomer.
