The Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) has recently proposed a light metro project and prepared the DPR, which is being sent to the state government for approval. An estimated investment worth ₹8,000 crore of which 50% will be shared by Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation (AMRC) and the remaining portion would be raised under the PPP-mode and certain contribution from financial institutions. The VUDA has been entrusted with the responsibility of the execution of the project, Vice Chairman P. Basanth Kumar said that residential villas has been planned on the land acquired by the nodal agency in Vepagunta and the agency is also contemplating to build residential complexes along the light metro corridors. He further added that affordable housing and international complex have also been planned at the tri-junction near Sabbavaram after acquiring land under the Land Pooling Scheme (LPS).
