UPMRC Awards Design Consultancy for Lucknow Metro East–West Corridor

Lucknow-Metro
The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has initiated the next phase of the Lucknow Metro project by awarding the first construction-linked consultancy assignment for the East–West Corridor (Line-2). The contract has been secured by a joint venture between Spain-based AYESA Ingenieria Arquitectura SAU and AYESA India Pvt Ltd.

The consortium emerged as the lowest bidder for the Detailed Design Consultant (DDC) package under Phase 1B of the project. Following evaluation of the financial proposal, UPMRC has recommended the award at a contract value of ₹15.9 crore.

The East–West Corridor received central government approval in August 2025 with an estimated project investment of ₹5,801 crore. The proposed Line-2 will cover a distance of 11.165 km, connecting Charbagh Railway Station with Vasant Kunj and traversing densely populated areas of Old Lucknow. The corridor will comprise 12 stations in total.

As per the Detailed Project Report, around 4.286 km of the alignment will be elevated, featuring five stations between Vasant Kunj and Thakurganj. The remaining 6.879 km will run underground from Charbagh to Niwazganj, accommodating seven stations. The mix of elevated and underground sections has been planned to minimise land acquisition and address the constraints of the historic city core.

With the appointment of the design consultant, UPMRC is expected to move forward with detailed engineering, tender documentation, and construction planning, paving the way for the physical execution of Lucknow’s second metro corridor.
