In order to provide top-class road infra across region, the Uttar Pradesh government has asked the centre to build Rs.10,000 crore Bundelkhand Expressway besides other big-ticket road projects. Only last month, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also announced a six-lane Bundelkhand Expressway between Delhi and Jhansi and its linking to the Agra-Lucknow Expressway. UP Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) was supposed to build Bundelkhand Expressway but due to the paucity of funds, the state now requesting the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to do the same. Funds are an issue and the state is completely stretched after the loan waiver. UPEIDA will now build only Purvanchal Expressway from Lucknow to Ballia. Even for that, UPEIDA has been authorized to seek Rs.3,500 crore as loan from the state financial institutions, a senior UP government official said, adding that Centre‘s help to build ring roads in 10 of its major cities like Gorakhpur, Bareilly, Kanpur, Lucknow, Meerut, and Moradabad besides seven elevated roads in Lucknow.
