Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has approved 95 new canal restoration and strengthening projects in Uttar Pradesh, valued at Rs 394.53 crore, to improve irrigation networks across the state. The upgraded system is expected to restore irrigation to 36,000 hectares and directly benefit around 9 lakh farmers.

The government stated that these works are essential for expanding reliable irrigation, improving water management, boosting agricultural productivity, and strengthening the rural economy. All sanctioned projects will be executed within the prescribed timeframe with strict quality monitoring.

The approved works include closing gaps in the existing canal network and constructing head regulators, cross regulators, siphons, falls, and other key hydraulic structures. The plan also covers improvements to internal and external canal sections, lining and filling of reaches, rebuilding damaged culverts, and construction and repair of bridges and culverts along canal routes. Installation of kerbs on canal tracks and renovation of inspection buildings, office structures, watermills, and boundary walls have also been cleared.

The maximum benefits are expected to reach farmers in Purvanchal, Terai, Bundelkhand, and western Uttar Pradesh, where improved irrigation access will support crop yield and agricultural growth.
