Injecting a major push to the road network of the state, the Union cabinet recently cleared a Rs. 2,147.33crore for widening of Handia-Varanasi national highway stretch in Uttar Pradesh and this also becomes the first road project approved by the Centre in the state after BJP‘s resounding victory in assembly polls. This project has been awarded under the government‘s flagship road building program — National Highways Development Project (NHDP) Phase-V. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by PM, has given its approval for development of the six laning of the NH-2 in the state. The project will be built on the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM) and the total cost also included the cost of land acquisition, resettlement and rehabilitation and other pre-construction activities, said official sources.
